UPS Delivers When Power Goes Out

It is called a UPS, or uninterruptable power supply. A battery back-up that gives you time to shut your computer equipment down safely when power goes out. It happens everywhere sooner or later. At American Power Conversion, Lovisa Nordstrom says the effects of a sudden shut off of your computer, or surges can vary....

"You can have complete data loss, especially when, for example, when your computer is saving to a file and you have a complete power loss at that exact moment...you run the risk of losing everything on that hard drive."
Some computer owners aren't aware of the difference between a UPS and the much more common surge protectors on the market. Many learn too late...

"There are two types of users, those who have faced it and have lost the data and those who will. It's going to probably happen to everyone."

A couple of years ago, a UPS was out of the price range of everyday computer users, but not so anymore....

"For a regular PC today, your power protection with UPS, to get a UPS for your PC, is around the hundred dollar mark, and that's pretty affordable. That's, in my opinion, very cheap insurance to protect your PCs."
