(CBS) CHICAGO - Five days after 20-year-old University of Chicago student Austin Hudson-Lapore was last seen, his disappearance is still shrouded in mystery, reported CBS Chicago.

The college junior was last seen near the school's Hyde Park campus after finishing his finals, said the station. He reportedly left his phone and his wallet in his apartment.

According to CBS Chicago, Hudson-Lapore's family speculated that he may have gone to the lakefront to watch approaching storms.

The missing man's father, Gregg Lapore, said that his son was "upbeat" and did not seem troubled in the days leading up to his disappearance. The station reported that the young man had laughed with his family on Skype just days before he was last seen.

Word of the incident has spread throughout the student body. "It is sort of confusing like you don't know what is going on. We actually had a bunch of friends who were talking about it last night," Cam Cunningham, a student at the university, told CBS Chicago.

Cunningham wondered how Hudson-Lapore could have left his cell phone and wallet behind, telling the station, "You're in class texting, you have your wallet everywhere. I meant, if you need to buy anything you need your wallet."

The station said that Hudson-Lapore is from Albuquerque, N.M. and studies biological chemistry.
