NEW YORK (CBS) Country singer Trace Adkins talked about more than music when he appeared Friday morning on the Fox Network's "Fox & Friends."

According to Nashville.com, Adkins, whose new album was released on Tuesday, weighed in on the controversial plans for a mosque near Ground Zero in New York, calling it "a slap in the face."

He also called it a no-win situation, saying that one decision will make the U.S. appear weak and the other, intolerant.

"Cowboy's Back in Town" is his 12th album. Adkins has won numerous music awards and honors, including four Grammy nominations. He has appeared on the reality shows "Celebrity Apprentice" and "Extreme Makeover."

He also is the author of "A Personal Stand: Observations and Opinions from a Free-Thinking Roughneck."
