Torrance WD's From Open
Sam Torrance has withdrawn from the Open Championship. The 45-year-old Scot informed the Royal and Ancient Open Committee Thursday morning that he felt he was not happy enough with his game to compete.
Torrance has played in the last 27 Open Championships, starting with 1975. His best finish was in 1981 at Royal St. Georges when he finished 5th.
Torrance's spot in the Championship was taken by 23-year-old Leasowe Club professional Neil Price, who secured the second reserve spot after a playoff at Monifieth Links. He is a former Cheshire Boys' Champion.
Price teed off at 8:45 am (GMT) with Steve Elkington and Ted Tryba.
The first reserve, Scott Watson, replaced Bill Glasson.
