"The X Factor" unveils the top 16 contestants

"The X Factor" returned with a full episode Tuesday night, a week after a Major League Baseball rain delay interrupted the unveiling of the top 16 contenders.

Viewers did get to see some of the show last week when Britney Spears chose Diamond White, Carly Rose Sonenclar, Arin Ray and Beatrice Miller for the teen category team. L.A. Reid's over-25 team features Jason Brock, David Correy, Tate Stevens and Vino Alan.

On Tuesday, we learned which contestants Demi Lovato and Simon Cowell chose for the live competition rounds, which kick off Nov. 1.

In addition to Willie Jones and Jennel Garcia, Lovato's four young adult team members now also include Paige Thomas and CeCe Frey. That meant Nick Youngerman and Jillian Jensen got the boot.

Lastly, Cowell's top four team members for the groups category were revealed. He chose Emblem 3, saying, "I have been impressed with you from the minute I first saw you." Cowell also chose Lylas and said he really liked their vocals. Also in the mix now is the Texas trio Sister C, which Cowell says is marketable enough for radio. He also chose Lyric 145, saying, "I have to put people in, if I'm being honest with you, who I believe are going to absolutely blow people away."

Cowell said goodbye to Dope Crisis and Playback.

Fans of "The X Factor" received good news this week when Cowell revealed that the series will be back for a third season.

"I wanted you guys to be the first to know that FOX have confirmed that @TheXFactorUSA will be back next year for it's third season," he tweeted.

The live shows get under way next Thursday with new co-hosts Mario Lopez and Khloe Kardashian.
