Temple Trounces Duquesne


Quincy Wadley scored 17 points and Lynn Greer added 15 as No. 24 Temple beat Duquesne 81-37 Saturday.

Reserve Keaton Sanders had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Owls (14-4, 7-1 Atlantic 10), who had a 55-24 rebounding advantage despite playing without starting center Kevin Lyde, sidelined with a sore back.

  • Wayne Smith, Duquesne's leading scorer, who was averaging 19.4 points, was held to nine points.

    The Dukes (8-11, 3-5) had no player in double figures.

    Leading 35-16 at halftime, Temple went on an 18-2 run at the start of the second half for a 53-18 lead, then boosted the advantage to 60-19 on a 3-pointer by Alex Wesby with 8:59 to play.

    The game started raggedly, with the Owls turning the ball over on their first five possessions and Duquesne missing its first six shots.

    The Owls finally took a 20-8 lead on a Wadley 3-pointer. Temple took its biggest lead of the half, 33-9, on another 3 by Mark Karcher with three minutes to go.

    Duquesne committed 17 turnovers while making only 11 of 46 shots (24 percent).
