Temple Coach Meets With Auburn

Temple football coach Bobby Wallace acknowledged Tuesday he has met with Auburn athletic director David Housel about the Tigers' coaching vacancy.

"I have met with David Housel within the last 12 hours," Wallace said Tuesday. "I've known (Housel) for 17-18 years and it was a very cordial meeting. We'll address it over the next week and then it will be over with."

The Tigers have been searching for a coach since Terry Bowden's departure last month after a 1-5 start. Defensive coordinator Bill Oliver took over on an interim basis and has since compiled a 2-2 record.

Wallace is on a list of candidates that includes Oliver and Pat Sullivan, Auburn's 1971 Heisman quarterback.

Oliver said Tuesday he will likely retire at the end of the season if Auburn does not make him the permanent head coach.

Oliver has said he'd like to keep the job, but when asked if he would return next year in any other capacity, Oliver said he doubted it.

"I'll go fishing, hunting, whatever, play some golf," Oliver said. "I'll probably introduce myself to my wife."

Wallace is in the first year of a five-year contract with Temple. The Owls are 2-8 heading into their season finale Saturday against No. 24 Syracuse.
