Stock Prices Edge Higher
The stock market advanced Friday in an abbvreviated session which saw the Nasdaq Composite Index reach a record close.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average was up nearly 19 points, and gainers led decliners by seven-to-six. About 259 million shares traded on the New York Stock Exchange.The Nasdaq Composite Index climbed nearly 31 points for a record close and and the Standard & Poor 500 Index was up 5.5.
The market closed three hours early Friday, as part of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. For the four-session week (markets were closed Thanksgiving Day), the Dow Industrials gained about 173 points.
