​Sony's new Walkman costs $1,100

This isn't the Walkman you listened to your Paula Abdul tapes on.

At the International Consumer Electronics Show Monday, Sony showed off its new Walkman NW-ZX2, which will be released in the spring with a hefty $1,120 price tag. The player is a follow up to last year's return of the Walkman, the $300 ZX1.

The ZX2 runs on an older version of Android; though it has access to Google Play apps, it isn't intended to compete with your smartphone. Sony says it's all about high-resolution audio on the go.

The player has 128 GB of built-in memory and a micro SD card slot, and plays MP3, WMA, FLAC, WAV and Apple Lossless file formats, among others. The company touts its noise reduction, and the ability to upscale non-hi-res streaming sources to better quality sound. Sony claims the lithium-ion battery lasts for 60 hours of music.

It's sleek with a crisp touchscreen -- a world away from the clunky Walkman of yore -- and the Verge'sRoss Miller says he loves the matte black casing and curved form factor. Whether audiophiles will pony up over a grand for it, though, we'll just have to wait and see.
