Robert Downey Jr. tweets with boy who had a "rough day"

Robert Downey Jr. was a hero of sorts to a young boy, thanks to the powers of social media.

The "Avengers" star wrote to the fan after his mother reached out via Twitter and asked if he'd say hello, explaining that Aidan had a "rough day."

Her message caught the actor's attention and he wrote back: "Aidan, what's up? Tell me everything."

Aidan and Downey then chatted back and forth, which had a big impact on the young fan. "You made my day and my year," he said. "Thanks for talking to me."

The interaction came after news came Wednesday that Downey walked out of an interview after being asked questions about the darker periods in his past.

He and the rest of the "Avengers" stars have been out promoting their next film, "Avengers: Age of Ultron," which arrives in theaters May 1.
