Rangers Sign First-Round Pick
The New York Rangers agreed Monday to terms on a contract with right-winger Stefan Cherneski, their first-round pick in the 1997 NHL draft.

Cherneski, 19, played the past three seasons with the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League. He was selected to the WHL's Eastern Conference All-Star team this year and finished the season with 43 goals and 38 assists in 65 games. The six-foot, 195-pound native of Winnipeg also led all playoff scorers with 15 goals in 18 games.
He was chosen 19th overall by the Rangers in the 1997 NHL draft.
