Olympic torchbearer gets tattoo with major misspelling

SALISBURY, UNITED KINGDOM - JULY 12: Torchbearer Michael Johnson, the 400m world record holder and Olympic gold medallist, carries the Olympic Flame at Stonehenge as the Torch Relay passes through Wiltshire on day 55 of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay on July 12, 2012 near Salisbury, England. With just over two weeks to the start of the London 2012 Olympic Games, the Olympic Flame is now on day 55 and the final leg of a 70-day relay involving 8,000 torchbearers covering 8,000 miles. (CBS News) Spell check really would have really come in handy. Because this one's permanent.

An Atlanta woman was so excited about being selected to be among this year's Olympic torch carrriers in London that she decided to get an ankle tattoo to celebrate.

The only problem? A major misspelling.

Jerri Peterson, a 54-year-old charity fundraiser, told BBC News she was initially very happy with her tattoo, which features the Olympic rings and a torch, along with the phrase Olympic torchbearer London 2012.

Except she soon realized -- after it was completed -- that Olympic was spelled "Oylmpic."

Peterson said it was only after sending a photo of her new ink to a friend that she noticed the error.

"I looked at it and I was so disappointed," she said. "I called my husband and he kind of giggled a little bit ... I've laughed about it ever since."

Peterson said the Georgia-based tattoo artist offered to correct his error, but she has decided to keep it as is.

"He felt so bad when he found out," Peterson added to BBC News. "He wanted to fix it but I decided I want to keep it. It's fine ... It's the Oy-limpics - it's as unique as I am."

Peterson, who works at a hotel chain, was chosen to represent 70 international employees as a torchbearer on June 30.

She posted a photo of the tattoo. Check it out here.
