Lightning Sign Samuelsson

The Tampa Bay Lightning signed 13-year NHL veteran defenseman Kjell Samuelsson to a one-year contract on Wednesday.

Samuelsson, 39, began the season in Austria with VEU Feldkirch. He had spent the past three seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers.

A sixth round pick in the 1984 draft by New York, Samuelsson has also played for the Rangers and the Pittsburgh Penguins. In 894 career games, Samuelsson has 68 goals, 166 assists and 1,367 penalty minutes.

Tampa Bay also placed Steve Kelly on the injured reserve list Wednesday. The center sustained a concussion in last Saturday's game at Carolina.
