Lakers Activate Horry

The Los Angeles Lakers have activated Robert Horry, who had been sidelined by soreness in his left knee, and waived former University of Minnesota star Sam Jacobson.

Jacobson, taken by the Lakers with the 26th pick in the 1998 NBA draft, averaged 3.3 points while appearing in three of Los Angeles' six games this season. He played in only two games last season, averaging 4 points and 1.5 rebounds a game.

Jacobson might have been the victim of a numbers crunch with the Lakers. Injuries to Horry, who went on the injured list Nov. 1, and Kobe Bryant, allowed Jacobson to stay on the roster.

He is in the second year of a guaranteed 3-year deal worth $2.16 million. Any team that claims him within 48 hours of when he was waived Friday would have to assume that contract.
