Katie Couric's Notebook: Larry King

In the pantheon of great broadcasters of all time, the King is well, the King.

Larry King has been a fixture in radio and television for half a century. But here's something you may not know...that isn't his real name.

I guess "Lawrence Harvey Zeiger Live" didn't have quite the same cache.

He was born in Brooklyn, and just like the Dodgers...he ended up in L.A.

On that journey he interviewed celebrities, politicians, newsmakers and everyday people with the same respect and genuine curiosity. From Oprah to the Ozone layer, Putin to Pacino...he's done it all.

There's no doubt in my mind his suspenders and signature glasses will end up in the Smithsonian...but I don't think he's ready to consign his collection anytime soon.

Tonight my friend closes one chapter of his amazing career.

Larry, to quote your favorite pal Frank Sinatra...you did it your way, all the way, and the best is yet to come.

That's a page from my notebook.

I'm Katie Couric, CBS News.
