Katie Couric's Notebook: Bottom's Up
March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb.
As Harry Smith just learned though, MiraLax goes the other way around. Just a little colonoscopy humor which can come in handy.
After all, March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month.
Ten years ago, I had a colonoscopy on television. At one point, a little high on anesthesia, I commented that I had a pretty little colon. Today, it was Harry's turn...and in his drug-induced moment he waved hello to his liver.
Good times.
In the end...no pun intended...Harry was clean as a whistle.
Last year, nearly 50,000 people though died from colon cancer. It's the second leading cause of cancer deaths overall...but it doesn't have to be.
There are more than one million survivors of colorectal cancer...people whose cancers were detected early and treated.
So for Harry...and everyone else who will get screened this year for themselves and the people they love...cheers.
Or...maybe I should say...bottoms up.
That's a page from my notebook.
I'm Katie Couric, CBS News.
