I've Been Framed... Digitally!

It looks like an ordinary picture frame….until you notice it's showing a different photo every time you look. The photos are digital and inside that frame is an LCD screen. That's the concept behind a number of digital picture frames now on the market. The latest, from a company called Digi-Frame, has the best color display I've seen yet on one of these devices. It's only useful, really, if you have a digital camera. Just pop out the compact flash or smart media memory card….

Plug it into our unit and instantly set up a slide show, if they want, of up to five hundred images from one second to up to ten minutes on each picture."
Digi-
Frame VP Jerry Klein. You can connect the Digi-Frame to a computer, either a Mac or a PC, to download images and it will look good on almost any shelf….

"We have three individual stylized frames that come with it so that it will match any décor. There's a silver frame, a translucent frame and a burl wood frame that come included with it along with an AC adaptor."
That is bigger and bulkier than it should be for a shelf. The price is big and bulky too….599 dollars. And unlike another digital frame…the 249 dollar Ceiva, you can't plug a phone line into it to download pictures directly from the Web. The Ceiva carries a three dollar a month subscription fee as well, by the way. For links to the products and more, visit us on the Web at ThirdAge.com. Bootcamp, I'm Fred Fishkin for CBS News.
