How to Improve Windows Vista's Performance

vista-logo.jpgDoes your Vista-equipped notebook or desktop seem a little sluggish? (Joke answer: Of course it does, it's running Vista!) You may find salvation -- or at least a speed uptick -- in the Microsoft-authored Windows Vista Performance and Tuning guide.

This 14-page document covers topics like disabling visual effects, adjusting Vista's search-indexing features, using sleep mode instead of powering down the PC, and using ReadyBoost (which, according to reports like this one, doesn't really do much to improve performance).

In other words, it's a pretty novice-oriented guide, one that probably won't be of much help to tech-savvy users. That said, there's a lot of good information in here, especially for anyone striving to become more tech-savvy. The free guide is available in PDF and XPS formats (the latter viewable in Office 2007). [via gHacks]
