How Is School This Year?
The Early Show's Dave Price headed up to the Columbus Elementary School in Medford, Mass., to take an informal poll and find out how some third, fourth, and fifth graders think this year is going to play out.
The following are the questions he asked the kids and their answers.
Third Grade:
Q: What is it that makes third grade so interesting to you?
A: Well I think it's because the more learning and fun that you have, for the more strategy...
Q: For more strategy?
A: Yup. With my art. I want to be a very nice artist when I grow up.
Q: And a very strategic artist, right?
A: Yes.
Q: Tell me about what's different now that you're in third grade.
A: Well last year, I had to go to sleep at 7 o'clock.
Q: And this year?
A: 8:30!
Fourth Grade
Q: Years from now, when you're looking back at fourth grade, what will you remember?
A: Books and hard work.
Q: Take me through your desk. What do fourth graders have usually?
A: Date book, math book, science book, history book, geography book, This is another folder I got. And my ruler.
Q: The toughest thing about being a fourth grader is….
A: There are a lot of bullies in fourth grade. Once you get in fourth grade, that's the toughest thing. Try to ignore the bullies. My dad told me if you're a bully, you become a person who collects the garbage on Fridays.
Q: Let me ask you this: how is fourth-grade food?
A: Blech!!!
Q: Do you think you're almost as mature as I am now that you're in fourth grade?
A: Yeah, well, almost, in a couple of years. Like next year, I'll probably be as mature as you.
Price: Yeah. The people I work with would probably say the same thing.
Fifth Grade
Q: What do you want to learn this year that maybe you've never gotten to learn before?
A: More math. I'm really good at it because I go to Foxwoods (Resort Casino) a lot and I play.
Q: Oh. You go to Foxwoods and you play a lot. That's…that's…that's good. And your bookie is also excited about your learning more math?
A: Yeah.
Q: When you think back to your days at this elementary school, what are you most going to remember?
A: Fifth grade. I think I'm going to remember fifth grade because we're at the top of the food chain.
Q: So how has fifth grade been different so far?
A: Recess is before lunch.
