Gaurave Kumar, Pa. man, arrested due to "rape video" on ex's iPhone, police say
(CBS/AP) UPPER DARBY, Pa. - Police say a Philadelphia-area man is facing charges after sexually assaulting a former girlfriend and using her cellphone to capture the encounter on video.
The Delaware County Daily Times reports 23-year-old Gaurave Kumar was arraigned Monday on rape and other related charges in the June 11 incident.
Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood says the victim recently found the video on her phone and reported the incident.
According to the Daily Times, Chitwood reportedly said, "How dumb can you be? This is stupidity to the 20th degree. By taping it on her iPhone it led to his arrest. He caught himself on camera committing the crime."
Chitwood said the victim occasionally stays with Kumar and his mother at their home, and the three had dinner together the night of the incident, reports the Daily Times.
The victim says she remembers eating dinner and going to bed after starting to feel sick; she says she didn't know anything about the alleged assault until she found the video on her cellphone.
Chitwood reportedly said the victim believes Kumar must have put something in her food because she doesn't remember anything. Once the woman was asleep, Kumar allegedly assaulted her sexually.
