Facebook Continues to Roll Out Changes

On the heels of changes to its news feeds that have upset many users, Facebook has unveiled even more modifications to its pages and features at its annual developer's conference on Thursday. In his keynote address, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced a redesigned profile page that features a timeline of photos and text that users have shared in the past, with Zuckerberg saying the features enable a "new way to express who you are." He also announced new ways for users to share information about what they are doing with their friends, whether it's listening to music or watching a movie.

Earlier this week, the world's largest social networking company modified which stories appear by default in users' news feeds, and also added a live ticker of the most current activity of the people in their networks. Like previous changes to Facebook's home pages and settings, these modifications proved extremely unpopular among a vocal group of Facebook users, who took to Facebook and Twitter to complain. Other smaller changes introduced in the past few weeks include larger photo displays and the ability to more easily group friends into categories, a feature that rival network Google Plus has been emphasizing.

Mike Schroepfer, vice president of engineering at Facebook, told the Associated Press that these changes are "tailored at making sure this news feed is what you want to see." He added that "we want to make sure we provide the right kind of basics to make sure that the core of Facebook is sharing and (seeing) the right kind of things."
