Edit Office Docs on the iPad with Comprehensive Cloud Storage and Collaboration

There are already a number of Microsoft Office substitutes available for the iPhone and iPad -- Quickoffice and Documents to Go come to mind, for example. While we idly wonder if Microsoft will ever release its own version of Office for iOS, along comes a new contender -- one that seamlessly integrates an impressive Office doc editor with full cloud storage and desktop synchronization.

Soonr lets you view and edit Microsoft Office documents on both the iPhone and iPad. But that's not all; it has its own cloud storage solution that connects to your desktop PCs. You can install a client app on your PC to keep or documents in sync with Soonr, or just drag and drop specific files to the cloud as needed. Soonr's Web site gives you a great dashboard view of your PC's status, available space on the cloud, and what files you've stored in project folders at Soonr. The service even supports collaboration -- you can add team members who can share projects and be notified of activity on specific documents.

This isn't the first time we've mentioned Soonr -- Rick introduced the service way back in 2007, when, in its infancy, it was primarily used to view and share desktop files on your phone without needing to install any mobile software.

These days, Soonr's Office editing capabilities are impressive. Open a Word doc, for example, and you can change fonts, text alignment, add tables and images, and even run spell check or get word counts. Unfortunately, if you use Office 2010, you'll find that only Word files can be edited on Soonr; Word, PowerPoint, and Excel files are all fair game if you have older versions of Office, though.

You can try Soonr free for 30 days. After that, it's $7.95/month for three users and 10GB of storage, or $20/month for 5 team members and 40GB of storage.
