(CBS) The director who gave you the lady in the radiator is teaming up with the band that gave you bloodstain for your pain. Sounds like a match made in heaven.

Dispensing with the bad jokes: David Lynch is directing a live music webcast of Duran Duran's March 23 performance at the Mayan Theatre in L.A.

If at first the pairing seems bizarre, consider that Duran Duran made some of the most ambitious videos, production design-wise, of the 1980s, and Lynch ("Mulholland Dr.," "Eraserhead") is a director whose artistic vision has wowed and confounded countless filmgoers.

In a press release, Lynch said that he wants to create on the fly, calling the gig "[a] world of experimentation and hopefully some happy accidents."

The webcast is part of "American Express Unstaged" and will air on Duran Duran's Vevo page. Past pairings include Terry Gilliam and Arcade Fire, and Spike Lee directing the Roots and John Legend.

Duran Duran's new album, "All You Need is Now" comes out March 22. The band is scheduled to perform at SXSW March 16.
