Cool Cold Weather Gear
Much of the country has been enduring a brutally cold winter. But there are some new ways to protect yourself from the big chill.
On "The Early Show," Matt Bean, senior editor of Men's Health magazine, showed some of the coolest cold weather gear to keep you toasty this winter.
BLAZER
Arc'teryx Veilance line-very high tech fabrics, but also high-end finishes. Blazer is tailored just like a really nice blazer from any of the big fashion houses, but it's made of Gore-Tex.
OUTER JACKET
Powderhorn Gunpowder Jacket -- Down outerwear can turn your hot spots into sweat pools -- not this climate controller. Thanks to ceramic fivers woven throughout the fluffy stuff, the jacket redistributes heat more evenly throughout the filler, retaining body warmth and keeping out moisture.
BOOTS
The Columbia Bugathermo boots feature an innovative, rechargeable heating system keeps feet warm for up to eight hours. Three temperature settings adjust to the coldest conditions, and with waterproof, breathable Omni-Tech, feet stay dry. All this, plus our Techlite construction, keeps the boots lightweight and comfy. They're perfect for cooking in the great outdoors.
The Columbia Men's Bugathermo boots offer three temperature settings and an easy-to-use LED ankle button let you customize your heating system on the go. Internal lithium polymer batteries deliver lasting heating power and are easily recharged with the included adapter.
GLOVES
We're not sure about its looks, but the Burton Vice Mitt ($70) sure has some interesting functionality. Apart from its Pistol Grip pre-curved fit, which is great for active users, the Gnar Guard genuine leather palm area for added feel, the Dryride Ultrashell coated fabric outer, and brushed microfiber lining, the Vice Mitt also sports a zip-out beverage cozy in the right palm, keeping your hand warm and dry while your drink stays cold and wet, and a stash pocket for, well, stashing stuff you'd rather not leave loose in your pockets.
HANDWARMER
This little guy -- the Zippo Handwarmer -- gives you constant warmth for up to 24 hours with just 0.4 oz of fuel, and produces more than 10 times as much heat as disposable warmers. Its slim profile is perfect for pockets or gloves.
Merino wool items
Nau scarf and the Patagonia sweater are naturally stink-resistant. These items have fine fibers and are not too expensive.
