'Chic' Father's Day Ideas

On Wednesday's "Chic On A Shoestring" challenge, The Early Show took a look at fashionable Father's Day gifs.

Suze Yalof Schwartz, executive fashion editor for Glamour magazine, had some stylish suggestions at both discount and designer prices.

She put The Early Show's co-anchor Harry Smith, correspondent Debbye Turner and resident chef Bobby Flay to the test to identify expensive and affordable Father's Day gifts.

The items demonstrated on the shoestring challenge were worn by two different sets of twin male models.

The "Casual Chic Look" was modeled by twins Derek and Drew Riker (contestants from last year's "Amazing Race" on CBS).

Checked Shirt
Schwartz says a checked shirt is a wardrobe staple that can be worn to work, out to dinner or on weekends. Both preppy and stylish, these shirts appeal to men of all tastes. The Paul Stewart button down is more expensive because it is made out of a finer cotton than the Tommy Hillfiger version.

2 Steal: Tommy Hilfiger, $79 (Drew)
Can be purchased at Tommy Hilfiger stores nationwide

1 Splurge: Paul Stewart, $128 (Derek)
Can be purchased by calling 800-678-8278.

Jeans
The perfect way to dress down a chic button-down is to wear it with a pair of perfectly faded jeans, according to Schwartz. She says the new look for men's denim is vintage dark wash. The boot cut is also essential — no more tapered legs!

The Paper Denim jeans are more expensive because the fabric goes through a longer sand-blasting process to achieve the perfect fade.

1 Steal: Gap $58 (Derek)
The jeans can be purchased at the Gap stores nationwide.

2 Splurge: Paper Denim & Cloth, $160 (Drew)

Driving Mocassins
Schwartz likes to call moccasins a safety shoe because it is the perfect dress-up or dress-down weekend shoe, and looks fantastic, she says, when paired with jeans. Plus, they are comfortable. The Tod's shoe is pricier because it is handmade.

2 Steal: Lands' End, $79 (Drew)
The Lands' End moccasins can be purchased from its catalog.

1 Splurge: Tod's, $295 (Derek)
Tod's Stores nationwide has moccasins available for purchasing.

Watches
Schwartz says manly, chic stainless steel watches are among the must-have items of the moment for men. She says you can wear them sporty or with a suit.

For the "Chic on a Shoestring" challenge, both watches are water resistant, but the Concord is automatic (meaning you never need to change the battery)and is sold at a much higher price.

1 Steal: Kenneth Cole, $95 (Derek)
Kenneth Cole watch is available at Bloomingdale's.

2 Splurge: Concord, $2,490 (Drew)
The Concord watch is also available at Bloomingdale's.

Damian and Chris modeled the beach/poolside look.

Swim Trunks
From Paris to America, Schwartz says, floral print swim trunks are all the rage. Both swim trunks displayed on Wednesday are made out of durable fabrics, and there's even a mini boy's version of the Vilebrequin ($55). Because the stitching on the Vilebrequin shorts is sturdier, they are more expensive, and will probably last another season or two.

1 Steal: Banana Republic, $45 (Damian)
Available at Banana Republic stores nationwide.

2 Splurge: Vilebrequin, $140 (Chris)
Call 888-458-0051 for more information on Vilebrequin swim trunks.

Sunglasses
All men need to own one pair of aviator sunglasses, says Schwartz. The masculine "Top Gun" look was pulled straight off the Michael Kors runway, and works in the summer, as well as in the fall. The Michael Kors glasses are more expensive because the lenses have a higher UV protection.

2 Steal: H&M, $5.50 (Chris)
Available for purchase at H&M stores nationally.

1 Splurge: Michael Kors, $190 (Damian)
Available for purchase at Michael Kors stores nationwide.
