Bold, Bright Highlight Grammys Red Carpet

Bold, bright outfits on the red carpet had everybody buzzing at the Grammys Sunday night.

And Katrina Szish, national correspondent for
InStyle magazine, says Fergie and Rihanna were her favorites, bringing their fun, personal styles to their looks for the night.

Fergie wore Calvin Klein; Rihanna, Zac Posen. Rihanna's dress was really modern, Szish says; she's setting trends with her hair, and the fact that she was wearing one of the hottest names in fashion right now just shows how trendy she is. Szish adds that she loved Rihanna's feathers!

Szish's least-favorites: Alicia Keys, Nelly Furtado -- too much jewelry, and Fantasia -- her hair was too crazy.

On The Early Show Monday, Szish observed that big trends also included belted and bejeweled waistlines, and relaxed hair -- very natural and not overdone. The makeup wasn't about bright, red lips -- rather, it was about bright, colored nails and candy colors on the eyes.

According to Szish:

Natasha Bedingfield looked great in purple. There was also a lot of blue being worn by Nelly Furtado, Alicia Keys, Corinne Bailey Rae, and Rihanna. Fergie looked amazing in yellow. Leave it to Prince to be right on trend with his candy apple red suit!

Beyonce looked great; I loved her new hair. When I first saw her from the waist up, I thought she looked amazing. I wasn't sure of the dress, but you know, if anyone can make it work, it was Beyonce.

Miley Cyrus was wearing way too much makeup for her age, though the length of her dress was great. I would have liked to see her in something more youthful with color, but since she didn't wear black, white was a good color for her.

Carrie Underwood has been a style-setter, but I wasn't that excited with her hair. It's her staple, but I would have liked her to look a little more natural. The dress itself was great, with a belted waist like we've seen on Corrine Bailey Rae and Natasha Bedingfield.

Alicia Keys' dress looked old-fashioned, with its halter neckline; it was too heavy. The dress she wore on stage was much better.

Taylor Swift: I loved that she was wearing color. I thought the dress looked a little prom-like. It didn't look modern. Hair and makeup were a little over done. I would have liked to see her a little less done-up.

Nelly Furtado: Too much jewelry. Her dress had great color, but she went too heavy on accessories.

Fantasia: Hair trend was way over the top: half-blonde, half dark. Half shaved, half not.

Faith Hill: Went with an asymmetrical neck line, which was great, but the color was all black. That was too much. It made it look like an award show from a different era, ans was a little old-fashioned.

The Men:

Jay-Z looked fantastic wearing a classic bow tie. The guys were being really classic and elegant.

Between John Legend, Ludacris and Jay-Z, it was classic and amazing. Seal did a great job as well, in an all-white suit. I usually don't like all-white, but he wore it well with a mastermind skull tie; very hip!
