Blair's Troubles are 'Big Ones'

There is something about Britain's Prime Minister.

Maybe you noticed it too, I rather suspect your President did. Because Tony Blair always smiles a beatific smile. It's as though a little piece of heaven has arrived when he appears. Saintly. Everything except the halo.

Most political leaders in the Western world go to church because they might alienate church-going voters if they didn't. But Tony Blair goes to church because he wants to. And he doesn't go to any old church, he goes to a Roman Catholic church because his wife is a Catholic. Mr Blair believes, big time.

I remember my own surprise when he once turned down the chance of a high-profile TV interview because it clashed with Mass. Now that is religious commitment!

I'm telling you this just to emphasise that Tony Blair is not the sort of chap to be seen thumbing through the glossy pages of magazines like "Spank", a journal that specialises in displaying the joys of - you guessed it – spanking. Nor would he want to be associated with "Big Ones", a publication that carries female pectoral development to the absurd. Yet it has now emerged that Mr Blair's party was quite happy to accept a very large financial donation from the publisher of these pornographic magazines. Richard Desmond, the man with the deep pockets, continues to make a fortune pandering to sexual fantasy. He also owns one of Britain's oldest newspapers, the Daily Express, which urges its readers to vote Labour. As far as I know readers of "Spank" and "Big Ones" have not yet been subjected to the same political message, and might be rather too preoccupied to notice even if they were. But that's not the point.

A lot of people over here are surprised and shocked and are urging him to practise what he preaches. To cast the moneylenders, and the porn merchant, out of the temple. Amen.
