Biden Tells Vets U.S. Keeping Iraqi Commitments
Vice President Joe Biden has told a military veterans convention in Indianapolis that insurgents in Iraq have failed in their efforts to undermine elections and the forming of a new government there.
Speaking Monday at the annual convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Biden said the United States will remain committed to helping the Iraqi people even after the last American combat troops leave the country this month.
Biden said the Iraqis are ready to take charge of their country and that troubles with negotiations among the leaders shows that politics -- and not war -- have broken out there.
About 50,000 U.S. troops are expected to remain in Iraq until the end of 2011 as a training and assistance force.
