"Base-brawl" Player Gets 30 Days in Jail

A judge has ordered a minor league pitcher to serve 30 days in jail and three years' probation for injuring a fan when he threw a baseball during a melee in Dayton last year.

Twenty-two-year-old Julio Castillo had faced up to eight years in prison. Montgomery County Judge Connie Price said Thursday she believes Castillo is remorseful.

She also ordered Castillo to get anger management counseling, write an apology to the fan, stay employed and work toward a high school equivalency diploma.

Castillo was pitching for the visiting Peoria Chiefs when a brawl broke out in the game against the Dayton Dragons.

The native of the Dominican Republic told the judge through an interpreter he was sorry.
