Bachmann: Obama needs a fiscal "spanking"

Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., says Congress needs to discipline President Obama for making executive decisions when it comes to government spending.

"He has a perpetual magic wand, and nobody's given him a spanking yet and taken it out of his hand," Bachmann said in an interview with the conservative website WorldNetDaily, published Monday.

Her remarks came in response to a question about Mr. Obama's "penchant to rule by blog post," in reference to the administration's announcement that they were delaying a major part of the Affordable Care Act for a year. Bachmann suggested Mr. Obama would make the same sort of executive decisions about any immigration legislation that passes through Congress, unless the House restricts his authority.

"That's what Congress needs to do, give the president a major wake-up call," she said. "And the way we spank the president, is we do it through the checkbook. We have the power of the purse. The most powerful body in Washington, D.C., is the United States House of Representatives, of which I'm honored to be a part."

She continued, "We're the ones who say, 'No, you can't have the money... What is wrong with us that we would give the president 10 cents to fund Obamacare?"
