Amazon making Apple TV-like device, report says

Amazon.com may be working on device that would stream online video to television sets, like Apple TV or Roku.

According to Bloomberg, the retail giant is working on a television set-top box that could deliver TV shows and movies to its customers' homes. Citing people with knowledge of the matter, the news organization reports that the device will come out later this year and will provide access to its video services.

Bloomberg reports that the device would be called Kindle TV and deliver content from Amazon, as well as streaming services like Netflix, Hulu and YouTube.

Amazon tablet computer, the Kindle Fire, is widely considered a success as a portable mobile device. Its operating system has been customized to deliver movies and TV shows from services like Amazon Prime with relative ease.

Bloomberg's sources did not reveal specifics on Amazon's plans for pricing. However, the Los Angeles Times speculates that Amazon would price the device to compete with Apple TV, which is $99.

Amazon did not immediately respond to CBS News' request for comment.
