Let's Go A Little Faster On The Roads Says One Michigan Senator
DETROIT (CBSDETROIT) - Are Michigan's freeways too slow? State Senator Rick Jones is making a pitch to speed things up. Jones wants Michigan freeways to roll at 75... a speed he says State Police studies have shown is the safest.
Jones believes motorists are being unnecessarily ticketed so communities can make some cash.
"All good police officers oppose speed traps," said Jones. "Speeds should be posted scientifically and properly for the safest speed and then the officers will catch the big violators. We don't need to get the average Joe getting to work."
He tells WWJ's Sandra McNeil that he believes that some communities have put in speed traps just to raise income.
Jones says higher limits would free officers up to catch the big violators who are going inordinately fast or driving drunk.
