Event Notices From November 9-11

University of Phoenix Sets Military Transition Event: The University of Phoenix will host a military transition event to connect career resources and opportunities to veterans, active-duty service members and their spouses during Veterans Day week. The event will be held Tuesday, Nov. 13 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the University of Phoenix Southfield Learning Center, 26261 Evergreen Road, Southfield. As hundreds of thousands of service members return home from Iraq and Afghanistan, veterans' unemployment rate is 9.7 percent, significantly higher than the national unemployment rate of 7.8 percent. The need for career services for transitioning active-duty service members, veterans and their families has never been more immediate. Entering the civilian job sector after a military career requires careful preparation and planning. To meet this need, University of Phoenix invites veterans, active duty-service members and their spouses to a special Start Strong Event to learn about career resources essential for transitioning success. Besides a panel discussion from active duty military personnel and veterans, there will be workshops on CompTIA certification and "dress for success" topics.
