Casting For New "Star Wars" Movie Drives Hundreds To Audition In Troy
TROY (WWJ) - May the force be with you.
That's what hundreds of young people were hoping for as they attended an open casting call in Troy for a new "Star Wars" movie. Twenty-one-year-old Chase Garrett of Riverview told WWJ's Beth Fisher that he would love to be in it.
"I've always been a big fan of "Star Wars" and "Star Trek" and I really loved what J.J. Abrams did in the last one, so I figured I'd come out here and give it a shot," said Garrett. "I fit one of the characters pretty good."
They were casting for a young woman in her late teens and a 19 to 23 year-old man. Jake Chase of Romulus would like a shot:
"Just the opportunity ... I really want to be a part of the movies and "Star Wars" is like the biggest movie - growing up as a kid watching the originals. I'm really excited," said Chase.
Hundreds turned out for the auditions.
Some traveled from other cities for the casting call in Troy and were a bit concerned about the tornado watch that's in effect. Amber Bailer of Big Rapids has a three-hour drive home:
"I didn't know about the tornado watch until I actually got here ... I heard somebody else talking about it so I'm a little nervous about going back home. But hopefully it will be okay," said Bailer.
Some others say they are a little concerned, too -- when another young man says his parents are worried about the weather.
