Two Injured In Indiana Avenue Fire

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two people were injured when a blaze erupted at a vacant building Monday night in the Grand Boulevard neighborhood, fire officials said.

Firefighters arrived to the 4800 block of South Indiana Avenue on the South Side where a still-and-box alarm fire broke out about 11:20 p.m., Fire Media Affairs said.

The top floor of a three-story, gray-stone vacant building was burning, Fire Media said, adding that the building had been boarded up.

Firefighters were able to rescue a 50-year-old man who was later taken in critical condition to the University of Chicago Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation, Fire Media said.

A woman, thought to be in her mid-40s, jumped out of the building, Fire Media said. She suffered minor burns and abrasions and was taken in good condition to the University of Chicago Hospital, Fire Media said.

The man and the woman were "unauthorized occupants," Fire Media said.
