Police: 3 Dead, 19 Wounded In Weekend Shootings Across Chicago

(STMW) --Three people were killed and at least 19 others have been wounded in shootings across Chicago since late Friday afternoon, police said.

The latest homicide happened Saturday morning in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.

A 25-year-old man was found with fatal gunshot wounds shortly after 7 a.m. in the passenger's seat of a vehicle in the 800 block of North Avers, according to Chicago Police.

He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where he later died, police said. The Cook County medical examiner's office could not immediately confirm the death.

A 64-year-old man was shot to death Friday evening in the Southwest Side Gage Park neighborhood.

Jose Arreola was found unresponsive on a sidewalk just after 7 p.m. in the 5100 block of South Troy with gunshot wounds to the abdomen and legs, according to police and the medical examiner's office.

Arreola, who lived in the 5100 block of South Albany, was taken to Mount Sinai, where he later died, authorities said.

About three hours earlier, a 23-year-old man was gunned down in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

He was fighting with two people on a sidewalk just before 4 p.m. in the 4100 block of West 21st Street when one of the other two pulled out a gun and shot him in the head, police said.

He was taken to Mount Sinai, where he later died, according to police, who called the shooting domestic-related. The medical examiner's office did not immediately confirm the fatality.

The most recent nonfatal attack happened Sunday morning in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.

A 29-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds to the body about 6:15 a.m. in the 1000 block of West 50th Street, according to preliminary police information. He was taken in critical condition to Stroger Hospital.

Early Sunday, three men were wounded in a shooting in the Wicker Park neighborhood.

They got into a fight inside a club in the 1200 block of North Milwaukee about 1:20 a.m. and as they were leaving, a vehicle drove past and someone inside opened fire, striking them on the sidewalk, police said.

One man was shot in the right arm and left buttocks, and another in the right leg, police said. Those men, both 26, were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized, police said.

A third man, 25, later walked into Rush University Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the right foot. His condition was also stabilized, police said.

Less than an hour earlier, a 22-year-old man was shot in the Chatham neighborhood on the South Side.

He was standing at a gas station in the 7800 block of South State about 12:45 a.m. when someone opened fire from a green van nearby, police said.

The man was shot in the right foot and was taken to St. Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center, where his condition was stabilized.

Saturday night, two people were injured in separate Little Village neighborhood shootings within half an hour of each other on the Southwest Side.

A 24-year-old woman was walking with a male companion in the 2900 block of West 25th Street about 11:30 p.m. when a white pickup truck drove by and someone inside fired shots, police said. She suffered a gunshot wound to the left foot and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where her condition was stabilized.

About 11:05 p.m., a 28-year-old man was standing at a gas station in the 2900 block of South Pulaski when a white SUV drove by and someone inside opened fire, police said. He was shot in the right wrist and was taken to Mount Sinai, where his condition was stabilized.

At least 12 other people have been wounded in attacks across the city since 4:45 p.m. Friday.
