Firefighter suffers minor injuries battling blaze at Addison, Illinois smoke shop
A firefighter suffered minor injuries battling a blaze at a smoke shop in suburban Addison, Illinois Wednesday morning.
Crews responded to a structure fire just before 10:50 a.m. in the 300-block of West Lake Street.
Heavy smoke could be seen billowing out of the building in video posted to the Citizen app, and police shut down Lake Street between JFK and Mill Road. The road reopened just before 2:30 p.m.
A total of 15 neighboring agencies were called to bring the fire under control. The fire was not yet fully struck out as of 2:15 p.m.
Police said there were no civilian injuries or casualties, but one firefighter suffered minor injuries. They were treated at the scene and taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Drivers should seek alternative routes in the area Wednesday afternoon.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation with assistance from the DuPage County Fire and Arson Task Force.
