1 killed, 9 hurt in crash involving stolen car on Chicago's Southwest Side
CHICAGO (CBS) — Chicago Police are searching for the man who was driving a stolen car and caused a crash that killed one person and injured nine others in the city's Englewood neighborhood Friday night.
It happened around 9:30 p.m. in the 1600 block of West 59th Street.
The people most seriously hurt were also in the stolen car. The youngest of those injured is a 15-year-old girl who was taken to Comer Children's Hospital.
Surveillance video shows the driver of the stolen car had a red light but did not stop. Video from 59th and Ashland captures the collision.
The stolen black Honda was t-boned and sent spinning into a sign.
Chicago Police say the driver of the stolen vehicle took off and left four people behind inside the car. Police say a man in his 20s was killed. A 15-year-old girl suffered a spinal fracture and a 25-year-old woman suffered blunt force trauma. Both are in critical condition. A 16-year-old girl has a broken femur.
Police say six people in other vehicles were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.
As police shut down the intersection, they found a gun inside the Honda.
The name of the man killed in the crash has not been released as police continue to search for the driver of the stolen vehicle.
