Zagat To Visit Popular Baltimore Shopping Districts For New Retail Survey

BALTIMORE (WJZ)—They're world-renowned for restaurant surveys, and Saturday Zagat is coming to Baltimore to find out where you like to shop.

Ron Matz has more on some national recognition for Charm City.

From shoes to chocolate, Susannah Siger owns Hampden's Ma Petite Shoe and Choux Cafe next door.

Siger is a small business owner who's been successful for more than a decade.

"Zagat is a household name. It's exciting they're sourcing for retailers now, as well. We were excited that we were chosen as one of the retailers on the list," Siger said.

Saturday, the Zagat Survey comes to Hampden and other retail rich Baltimore neighborhoods to get your take on shopping.

"They'll have a street team, and they'll be aboard the Baltimore trolley. They're going to be in different retail rich neighborhoods. They're going to be in Hampden, the Inner Harbor, Harbor East and Fells Point, and they'll be asking people to take their new retail survey," said Sara Warfield, Visit Baltimore.

Siger hopes the view from Hampden will be bright.

"We're hoping that all of our customers who know about us and know maybe what a gem we are will contribute to the survey, so people from all over the country and the world can find this little shop in Hampden in Baltimore," Siger said.

The Zagat trolley will stop in Hampden at noon and then head to the Inner Harbor, Harbor East and Fells Point.

"There's more than 60 Baltimore retailers included. It's your opportunity to make your voice heard and support your local retailer," Warfield said.

Destination Hampden and more, where a shot of espresso and a new pair of shoes could be just the right fit.

"I think small business is the economic engine not only for Baltimore but for our entire country," Siger said. "Where larger companies may have had to let people go, we have survived. We've grown and we've thrived."

Everyone who takes the survey will receive a free 2014 Zagat Restaurant Guide.

"It's a great opportunity to shine the light on Baltimore retailers," Warfield said.

The three wittiest reviewers will win a Samsung tablet.
