Vinyl Record Sales Increase Rapidly

CATONSVILLE, Md. (WJZ) --- It just might be the biggest music comeback of 2014. The sale of vinyl is off the charts and Ron Matz reports that's music to the ears of one record store in Catonsville.

The sounds of the season go round and round at Trax On Wax in Catonsville, your vinyl destination.

"It's coming back with a vengeance," Trax On Wax owner Gary Gebler said. "People are really looking for that good sound and looking for that good record listening experience,

Gebler opened his record store to many skeptics nearly six years ago.

"They kind of looked at me like I had three heads on my shoulder and was like what are you thinking," Gebler said.

But now, from Miles Davis to Neil Diamond and more, vintage turntables and candy dishes, a new generation is getting into the groove.

"A lot of college kids a lot of high school people are coming in and getting into it," Gebler said.

Even Taylor Swift has a new album out. The record industry says vinyl sales are up nearly 50 percent.

"Her fans are buying that record and then buying other things as well so there's a whole new generation of people getting into that type of music," Gebler said.

Starting from scratch, going back to the future.

"I was thinking just if I could get by and sell a couple records and talk about music to cool people and not have a whole lot of stress, that would be great and it really took off after that," Gebler said.

They also buy and sell albums from the store.
