Motive Still Not Clear As Murdered Howard County Blogger Is Remembered
ELLICOTT CITY, Md. (WJZ) -- Teenage lovers are under arrest in the fatal stabbing of a well known Howard County man. Now we are learning more about who he was.
Derek Valcourt spoke with friends of the victim.
Police believe they know what happened in the house, but what they haven't said yet is the motive for this murder.
Condolence messages pour onto blogs and Facebook honoring Dennis Lane, a real estate executive who made a name for himself as a popular Howard County blogger and podcast co-host.
He's being remembered as a wonderful guy, who contributed to many lives. His own life, taken from him early Friday morning.
"Without having an elected title, he was kind of like an unofficial County Council member. He definitely was someone who made a difference in this county," said Bill Woodcock.
Police say Lane was murdered by his 14-year-old daughter, Morgan Arnold, and her 19-year-old boyfriend, Jason Bulmer.
"It's our detectives' understanding that the two have conspired over the last two months, exchanging electronic communication about planning to kill Mr. Lane," police said.
Police say the daughter intentionally left the sliding glass door to their Ellicott City home unlocked so her boyfriend could enter in the middle of the night. Once he entered, police say she encouraged Bulmer to stab her father to death.
During the attack, another woman in the house called for help. Bulmer was apparently covered in blood when officers arrived.
Friends, not just saddened by Lane's death, but the circumstances around it.
"It makes it that much harder to accept. Somebody I was talking to yesterday, they said it really well. They said the whole thing is disorienting, it's more than just a tragedy," said John Weinstein.
"Good hearted guy. He's been a friend of mine for over two decades, so it's been pretty intense to lose him," a friend said.
Police say the daughter told her boyfriend they would run away together after the murder. Now they're both locked up, facing charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder.
The two teens attended Mount Hebron High School.
