BLOG: Liking The Forecast
What a warmup! If you enjoy the warmer air, or at least a break from the Arctic chill we have had since December, you will like this week's forecast.
We thought it would get warm today, but definitely underestimated just how warm. Since temperatures really didn't drop much overnight, they were able to skyrocket this afternoon. We started out the day at 48 degrees (which is above our average high for this time of year), and have topped out at 66 degrees so far this afternoon. The record for today is 70 degrees, set back in 1990. We will be close, but will probably come up just short since the cold front is currently making its way through Baltimore at around 2:30 pm.
Winds were already high today, but will get even higher as they turn around to the northwest this afternoon behind the cold front. A Wind Advisory is in effect for the entire state through 10 PM with gusts possibly topping 45 mph - 50 mph in the mountains. Frostburg has already recorded a wind gust of 48 mph. There is also a Red Flag Warning in effect for the southern half of the state through tonight. Dry conditions and high winds are making for a high fire danger.
The winds will start to back off overnight, but they are bringing in cooler air. Temperatures will go down to the upper 20s/near 30 degrees overnight and then only recover to the low 40s tomorrow afternoon. Although this is 20-25 degrees cooler than today, it's actually closer to our average - and not the Arctic air that has been around so much of the last 2.5 months. However, this cooler air will quickly leave as another round of warmth is heading our way for the rest of the week.
Highs will jump back into the 50s on Wednesday, then keep climbing to the 60s on Thursday and Friday. At the same time, another front will be moving our way. This front will come through Saturday, knocking temperatures back down to reality for the weekend.
