Crowds Ecstatic As Pope Holds First US Mass In Washington

WASHINGTON D.C. (WJZ) -- Amidst a crowd of thousands and in front of the eyes of the world, Pope Francis gives his message to the faithful.

Marcus Washington reports for WJZ.

On the steps of the Basilica on the Catholic University campus, the Pope celebrates his first public mass on United States soil on Wednesday.

The mass--said in Spanish--the Argentinian's native tongue.

More than 25,000 ticket holders for the mass waited for hours for an audience in front of the Pontiff.

"I think when I look at all these people it's like a culmination of that mission love that we are all one human family," said one woman.

Many in attendance said they were honored just to be in the Pope's presence.
