Sources: Ellison a Finalist to Purchase Warriors

OAKLAND, Calif. (KCBS) Oracle billionaire Larry Ellison is a finalist to purchase the Golden State Warriors NBA basketball franchise.

Bay Area News Group newspapers reported on Tuesday that a source said Ellison is one of two finalists still bidding to purchase the Oakland-based franchise.

The sale is being facilitated by Galatioto Sports Partners, which current Warriors owner Chris Cohan hired to help sell the franchise.

Sal Galatioto of Galatioto Sports Partners said Tuesday that no announcement is "imminent," but there are ongoing negotiations.

A group headed by the founder of 24-Hour Fitness, Mark Mastrov, was reported last weekend to be a finalist as well.

Mastrov's group was among a total of four that Cohan had to choose from, including Ellison's bid, a group headed by Texas-based Wall Street financier David Bonderman and one that includes Mandalay Entertainment Group chairman Peter Guber.

Cohan trimmed the list of prospective owners in half, reportedly picking the two highest bidders, each of which submitted binding bids.
