POPE VALLEY -- A 103-acre wildfire near Napa County's Berryessa Estates was 30 percent contained Friday night, Cal Fire said.

Firefighters made a dozer line around the perimeter of the fire to help strengthen containment lines, the fire service said about 10:30 p.m.

The Snell fire, first reported about 5:30 p.m. in the 1100 block of Snell Valley Road in Pope Valley, was burning in steep, rugged terrain, Cal Fire said in social media posts.

Crews will remain through the night working on strengthening containment lines and putting out hot spots, fire officials said.

Cal Fire said it dispatched 18 engines, two air tankers, two helicopters, two water tenders, three hand crews and four dozers.

Firefighters from Cal Fire's Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit were joined by those from Napa County Fire and South Lake County Fire Protection District.
