Enforcement action continues in Santa Cruz against protesters who are camped out in front of the county courthouse. The demonstrators are protesting the city council's decision last month to ban camping in the city. The decision is a crackdown on the homeless.
For the past five weeks, demonstrators have camped on the front lawn of the county courthouse, and now the sheriff is cracking down.
Since last Friday, deputies have issued 24 citations and arrested nine demonstrators for failing to disperse.
County workers are beginning to complain about the behavior and the trash being left by the demonstrators. A private security guard had now been hired to maintain order at the county building during the day.
The sheriff's office says it will continue with its enforcement action for as long as necessary.
