Canine Companion Becomes Newest Teacher At Berkeley School For Deaf Children
BERKELEY (CBS SF) -- A Berkeley school for deaf children has a new K-9 staff member that is helping bring joy to a silent world.
Nan is a 2-year old retriever mix who has a special talent helping normally quiet and withdrawn children at Berkeley's Center for Early Intervention on Deafness blossom.
"They all clutter to her. Forget what I'm teaching about, she is the star of the show," teacher Jessica Salaam said.
Nan is a certified Facility Dog, trained by Canine Companions for Independence.
The CEID center operates primarily on donations, and a donor picked up the initial cost for Nan.
