California State Senator Calls For Fox TV Host's Resignation After Xenophobic Remarks

(CBS SF) -- A California state senator is calling for a Fox News TV host to resign after using a racial slur on his show.

Senator Ted Lieu, who represents the Santa Monica area of Southern California, said he was outraged by the racially-disparaging comments made by "The Five" host Bob Beckel regarding Chinese people.

During Thursday's broadcast, Beckel said "The Chinese are the single biggest threat to the national security of the U.S. They have been, they will be and they can wait, they're very patient. Do you know what we just did? As usual, we bring them over here and we teach a bunch of Chinamen— eh, Chinese people— how to do computers and then they go back to China and hack into us."

"We should all be alarmed by the racist, xenophobic comments by Fox News host Bob Beckel, Lieu said.

The Chinese-American Lieu says this was the second time Mr. Beckel used racial slurs. Following a swim outing last year, Beckel said his "eyes blew up, and it made me look Oriental."

"America is great because anyone can be an American. Our country is the strongest in the world because of our diversity. Unfortunately, Fox News Host Bob Beckel does not understand what it means to be an American," Lieu said.

"It is Mr. Beckel's extreme racist and xenophobic views that are a threat to the American people, and he should resign now," Lieu said.
