Robbers Fire Evacuees Forced To Play Waiting Game

FORESTHILL (CBS13) - While Cal Fire has an idea on its next plan of attack against the wildfire near Foresthill, the people left in the dark are people at the evacuation center.

They don't have a clue of what is going on.

Kathy Morgan is like many, wondering how her home is, just simply waiting for word from the evacuation center. The Robbers Fire had burned more than 300 acres as of Thursday morning, but no homes had been affected.

"It's frustrating. It's not a lot of fun," she said. "Didn't even get back to my house, slept in the car, had my dogs with me. My husband went and got the neighbors because they were by themselves. It's not real fun."

Glenda, another evacuee, told CBS13 it's tough, but there is light at the end of the tunnel

"You sleep about two minutes at a time, but that's OK, we'll get through it," she said.

Cal Fire says there are ways people can ensure their homes will stay standing in a time like this.

"Having that defensible space, pre-planning, planning ahead of the fire to be able to get all your stuff out if you need to get out when we have a situation like this," Capt. Mike Rufenacht said.

Despite such a massive fire, many evacuees kept a positive attitude.

"It's kind of fun. I met some nice people," Morgan said.

Cal Fire sent multiple trucks down the hill on Yankee Jims Road. They have a lot of aerial attacks going on as well as over 500 firefighters are on the ground fighting this fire. It was 20 percent contained as of Thursday morning.
