CERES - A man died after he was found shot in a home when police said they responded to reports of a home invasion in Ceres early Saturday morning.

The Ceres Police Department said it responded to a home in the 2700 block of Roeding Road around 3:30 a.m. when they got a report of a home invasion robbery.

When police arrived, they said they found a 63-year-old man lying in the living room with a gunshot wound to his chest. The man died at the scene.

No information about a suspect was released.

People living on the street are now questioning their own safety.

"What I thought was two dorm slams, very loud, just one after the other, it turned out two gunshots," said Marco Hernandez who lives near the deadly home invasion.

Hernandez said the man who died and other adult men that he would sometimes see in and out of the house seemed nice.

"It wasn't like rowdy or overcrowded kind of people just family-oriented people," Hernandez said.

CBS13 saw the victim's family gathered at the home on Sunday. They declined to talk on camera or give a comment on whether anyone else was inside the home during the deadly robbery.

Surveillance cameras circle the Ceres home, evidence that could have caught the crime. Family said the footage is now in the hands of police.

"It's a quiet street," said Hernandez. "The most we get is usual break-ins."

Neighbors are now questioning if there is a risk to the rest of the street filled with families.

Some neighbors said the man who died may have run some type of business. Police have not confirmed this or said if this was a targeted attack.

Ceres police also have not said how much money was taken during the robbery.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can call (209) 538-5616.
